At the advice of their family and friends, they move to Beverly Hills - where they move into the manison next door to banker Milburn Drysdale. Accompanying Jed to Beverly Hills are his daughter, Elly May, a beautiful young "spinster" tomboy; Jethro, Jed's nephew and the brain of the family (with a 6th grade education); and Granny, Jed's mother-in-law, a mountain healer and matchmaker.

The Beverly Hillbillies was an instant hit and ranked as the number one television series its first two years on-air. The theme song, "The Ballad of Jed Clampett," was composed by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, country musicians who occasionally guest starred on the series playing themselves.
