Turtles and Tortoises - reptiles recognized by a hard shell which encloses all of the internal organs of their body.Turtles have been around on our planet since the Triassic Period, that is about 200 million years ago ( it makes them older than the great dinosaur groups.

There are more than 250 species of turtles , of which the majority lives in the tropical zones.

Turtles and tortoises are basically divided into two groups:

The first comprising species that pull their heads into the shell by retracting their necks into an s-shaped curve and the second comprising freshwater species that hide their heads by bending the neck sideways.

Turtles adjusted to living in all types of environment , and can be found in a freshwater or terrestrial habitat, and two families in the sea.
